Conversions with Adobe Acrobat

In this article we briefly describe various conversion settings and how to create a PDF file from a Web page. It is a very usefull tip from 4D Konsulenterne’s Acrobat course and the text is an extract from 4D’s own course material.

• Conversion settings
• Create PDF file from website
• Create PDF file from clipboard (memory)
• Introduction to Adobe Acrobat and 4D Konsulenterne

Conversion settings
When you convert a document to PDF, it is worthwhile to consider what the PDF file is for.
There are different quality levels to choose from, which partly affects
the document file size, but also the quality of images in the document.
Do you want to convert the document to PDF, because you want to send it via email to a colleague so that he can proofread it, it is not necessary that the images in the document are in high resolution. In fact this could mean that the document may take up so much space that it cannot be sent via email.
If, however, the document is sent for printing where quality is paramount, it is obviously important that the images are of the highest quality. In this case, size is of secondary importance.

PDF file from Web Page
If you need to save a web page, you can do it by saving it as a bookmark in your internet browser.
The problem with this solution is that the page may change over time and therefore, you cannot be sure that the content is the same each time you visit the page.
If you want to save a frozen image of the page, you can do it by converting it into a PDF document, and that is what the menu item PDF from Web Page does.

Create will import and convert the web page.
The result is then opened in Acrobat:

Remember to subsequently save the page in order to preserve it.
By default, the conversion will only include the single page that the address suggests; in this case the home page of 4D Konsulenterne’s website where you will find many courses on offering including Excel kursus, SQL kursus, Sharepoint kursus and Indesign kursus.

If you want the conversion to include more pages, you need to expand the settings for the import function by clicking the Capture multiple levels button:

Here you can either specify how many levels of the website (Get only x levels) you want included in the conversion, or quite simply specify that you want the entire website converted (Get entire website).
Beware of converting an entire website; it can easily consist of several hundred pages.

PDF from Clipboard
In short, PDF from Clipboard makes a PDF file consisting of whatever is hidden in your computer’s clipboard (memory).
